Our feature Wedding today is Sam and Vus Vancouver Wedding. Both of them currently live in San Francisco but decided to have a wedding in Vancouver (Sams home town). We got referred to Sam from one of our good friends David Tam who also photographed their wedding. We have worked on several weddings together and David is one of my top Preferred Photographer Vendors <3. Sam trusted me with her big day as she had no time to do a trial, we did a glamourous look on her with triple layer lashes, a lovely smokey eye and a nude lip. For her hair we decided on up do incorporating in french braid in the front. Thank you so much for having us big a part of your big day! We wish Sam and Vu nothing but the best!! =). Here are a few pictures from their photo session in Whyte Cliff Park with David Tam.
This was one of my favourite editorial shoots to date. When I got asked by Daniel Ha of D’Soleil Photography to do the makeup on a Ballerina Bridal Inspired Editorial I was very excited and of course honoured. Daniel and I have worked together before with CC Roa of Roa Luxury Floral Event Design before on a Tuscany Wedding Theme Shoot so I knew we would have a great time. We shot this at the Vancouver Club in downtown Vancouver and collaborated with other amazing vendors such as Benefit Cosmetics, Flip Vision, Love by Phoebe , Hair by Micah Gibert plus a few more which can be seen in our publication in Praise Wedding. The models were amazing and they really looked like real life ballerinas! Here are a few shots from the shoot. Enjoy <3
Forget about all your hundreds of $$$s you spend on contouring products the past year. This years trend is…the opposite of contouring, its called “strobing” aka ” Highlighting” to the MAX!. Highlighting/Strobing goes on “high points” of your face such as on top of your cheek bones, brow bones, cupids bow and on the center of the forehead. Applying highlight on these parts of the faces will give you the illusion of a “iridescent glow” and also bring forward the high points of your face. This is a very good tutorial on where to “strobe” by Nikki.
I have yet to try “strobing” yet but when I do I will post my Top3 products that I use =). Have you tried the latest trend?
A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of getting Mayura ready for her wedding. It was a East meets West kind of wedding. Mayura had the traditional East Indian Sari, glamourous traditional East Indian Makeup with lashes and a red lip. She looked absolutely glowing from head to toe. Her wedding was at Hart House in Burnaby ( very intimate and I will say from past experience the food at Hart House is incredible). The wedding itself was not “big” according to East Indian Weddings, Mayura and her husband wanted to share their special moment with family and close friends. We had the honour of doing Mayura, her mom and her aunts makeup on the day and they were all so wonderful. We wish Mayura and her husband Tim a lifetime full of happiness!
These pictures were taken by the talented Katryna Kwok from ” Sweet Inspirations Photography“. We look forward to working with Katryna again soon!
Last year I had contest through Vancity Weddings for a Free Engagement Session Makeup and Hair =) The winner of that contest was Jessica <3 She came in right before her engagement shoot which she had schedule Alanna Milaney Photography. We wanted to make her feel and look amazing with a soft smokey eye, lashes and voluminous curls =). Jessica was a doll to work on, so out going and so sweet. They set off to the Richmond Night Market ( where her and her fiance met) then off to Iona Beach for a sunset shoot. If you ever are at the Surrey Night Market be sure to drop by their yummy food stall “Cheese Stix Factory” for some treats =) We are happy to say her pictures turned out amazing and look forward to seeing her again <3. Be sure to check out this video made by Charles De Jesus Photography of their E Session together here
We are happy to say its been 2 years since Maggie and Ray tied the knot. Back in 2013 Maggie had hired me as her Personal Stylist for the Day =). It was amazing, we started the day off bright at early at 4:30am with hair and makeup for the tea ceremony. Followed that was portrait pictures of her groom and family taken by Nhi Le. During the day there was 2 changes of hair and makeup and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. We recently caught up with Maggie and they now have a beautiful son =). Wow time flies. It seems like yesterday that we glammed everyone up for the big day!.
As a makeup artist I always get asked by clients and friends “How do I do a smokey eye without looking like a panda?”. The key to a smokey eye is blending and also have the ” darkest” colour near your lash line and blending upwards creating the ” smoke effect”. One of the fastest ways of creative a “smokey eye” is only using 3 products!. Black eyeliner, a shadows of your choosing ( this will determine your smoke) and mascara.
1) Line your eyes with the black eye liner ( top and bottom), I like to use a waterproof one like Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes to really have it stay there all day
2)Using your brush or your fingers “smudge it” upwards ( this does NOT have to be perfect), just make sure you see no harsh lines and the darkest part is still at the lash line.
3)Apply your smoke colour with a ” blending ” brush, be sure have the gradient from lash line to crease. – Don’t forget about the bottom ( focusing more on inner 2/3 of eye)
4) Apply Mascara and ta da! You are done.
Here are a few other ways of applying a smokey eye.~ Which one is your fave?
If you have ever heard of the LOVE BOAT then you would know it was actually one of Princess Cruises original cruise ships back in the day. This is where we begin. I had the pleasure of styling Alicia on her wedding date with her now husband Chris. They met working on Sapphire Princess a few years back and last month they tied the knot. As we got to know Alicia we also discovered we had worked on the same ship in 2009 on board the Caribbean Princess ( such a small world). On Alicias Wedding date, it was a fairy tale made for them. Their venue was at Steamworks in Gastown which showed off Canada Place ( Vancouvers ship port) and a meet and greet at the “Gassy Jack” whom had discovered Gastown and was from the Hull which was were Alicia and Chris had lived in the UK. Everything at the wedding was about their journey traveling around the world together while working on cruise ships from different themes at each tables to the “guestbook” which were actually post cards. Everything was perfect and couldn’t be better. As we ( Cathy Lee on Hair) prepped Alicia and her family for the big day we had the wonderful Sher More Photography take a few behind the scenes for us 🙂 Thank you for having us Alicia and Chris, we wish you both a lifetime full of happiness and joy =)
We all love longer, fuller more voluminous lashes right? There are so many products out there that claim to give you “fuller lashes with just a swipe” and “360 degrees curl and drama”. So many mascaras but where do you start? I believe the easiest step is just to apply a pair or 2! of false lashes to give your lashes that extra ” oomph!”. Here are a few options
1) Strip lashes- One of the most popular ones are the strip lashes, they come with a lash band which you apply glue on, wait 30 secs and plop them close to their lash line. Applying them may be a bit tricky but it just takes practise. I like using real hair strip lashes instead of the synthetic ones as they feel more comfortably and look more natural. There are many brands which include Ardell, Red Cherry, Davinci and even MINK lashes which are my favourite ( so soft and gorgeous) Its all up to preference. TIP: You can always cut the band in half and apply them separately if you are having a hard time
2) Individual Clusters- Another popular temporary option is individual clusters. Whats great about individual is that they are more versatile. They can be placed only on the outer corners for a more “winged eye” look which out having a full strip on. You can also strategically place them on your lash line with Small, Medium, Large clusters to have a more custom look. I recommend cluster lashes for those are want a little enhancement, these are also perfect for those who are just starting to wear lashes. TIP: Apply 4-6 clusters at the outer corners of your eye and watch the magic happen
3)Lash Extensions- I’m sure you have a girlfriend who has gotten these done. Depending on the style they can look super natural or very full. Lash Extensions are everywhere at the moment with different styles/ curls/ 3d, 4d/ classic set etc. The lash extensions lasts 4-6 weeks depending on how well you take care of them. Once applied no need for mascara in the morning. TIP: Once you have them, they become quite addictive so beware ;). If getting extensions done, do your research sometimes its worth it paying the extra dollar.
What are your favourite “false lash” options?
We were so honoured when Amanda from Amanda Coldicutt Photography asked us to do her makeup and hair for her photoshoot with her hubby. She was such a sweetheart and after then we have collaborated together for a Bridal Shoot seen here. Amanda had another amazing photographer Justine Russo photograph her afternoon. Wow are these shots amazing. I’m loving how her makeup translated (smokey eyes with lashes!) Thank you Amanda for having us be a part of your shoot <3
