If you have ever heard of the LOVE BOAT then you would know it was actually one of Princess Cruises original cruise ships back in the day. This is where we begin. I had the pleasure of styling Alicia on her wedding date with her now husband Chris. They met working on Sapphire Princess a few years back and last month they tied the knot. As we got to know Alicia we also discovered we had worked on the same ship in 2009 on board the Caribbean Princess ( such a small world). On Alicias Wedding date, it was a fairy tale made for them. Their venue was at Steamworks in Gastown which showed off Canada Place ( Vancouvers ship port) and a meet and greet at the “Gassy Jack” whom had discovered Gastown and was from the Hull which was were Alicia and Chris had lived in the UK. Everything at the wedding was about their journey traveling around the world together while working on cruise ships from different themes at each tables to the “guestbook” which were actually post cards. Everything was perfect and couldn’t be better. As we ( Cathy Lee on Hair) prepped Alicia and her family for the big day we had the wonderful Sher More Photography take a few behind the scenes for us 🙂 Thank you for having us Alicia and Chris, we wish you both a lifetime full of happiness and joy =)
I had recently gotten to try IIKONN LASHES and I love them!. There are so many 3D lash companies out there and its hard to choose which ones carry the best lashes. I love that IIKONN is a local company and I love supporting small buisness that are close by =). There are 2 collection GOLD and SILVER. The one I tried was the MARILYN 3D (below picture)from the Gold Collection and they are amazing! The full and whispey effect is definitely a plus for me!. What is great about IIKONN is that the lashes can be worn up to 25+times which in the long run is much more affordable then regular lashes. I’m looking forward to purchasing more for my clients this wedding season!
We have all had that one time when we applied “black eye liner” and within 2 hours it was all under neath our eyes, we look in the mirror and we looked like a mixture between a racoon and someone who hadn’t slept for days or both haha. I have tried many eye liners on the market and some of them have claimes they are are ” water proof, non smudging, non moving etc”. Some of them lived up to their claim, some unfortunately are in the bottom of my makeup drawers collecting dust. Here are my top 3 liners in all formulas
1) Eye Pencil-There are the pencil formulas and there are the ” kohl” formulas. I personally think the kohl formulas are better for ” smudging” as they are softer so they are perfect for creating that based for a smokey eye. I love Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes Black Eye liner as its not too soft and not too stick, you can apply this on top, bottom or even in the waterline. Make sure you sharpen it to get a more crisp line
2)Gel Pot- Gel Pot liners can be applied with a angled brush for that “cat eyed” look, dip your brush into the pot, take off the excess and apply it close to your lash line and flick outwards. With the angles of your brush you can manipulate the product to get the liner as thin or as thick as you want. Black track has a quick drying time so you may have to move fast, remember practise makes perfect 😉
3)Liquid Eye Liners- I used to hate them as the liner would end up all over my lids and when I would open my eyes it was a HUGE mess, it used to take me 15 mins to just to apply one eye. I used learnt to love liquid as you dont need a brush or a sharpener. Tip: Just remember to tilt your head all the way up and look down. This eye liner drys fast so it shouldn’t smudge all over your eye lids =)
Hope this all helped everyones Eye Liner Woes!
We all love longer, fuller more voluminous lashes right? There are so many products out there that claim to give you “fuller lashes with just a swipe” and “360 degrees curl and drama”. So many mascaras but where do you start? I believe the easiest step is just to apply a pair or 2! of false lashes to give your lashes that extra ” oomph!”. Here are a few options
1) Strip lashes- One of the most popular ones are the strip lashes, they come with a lash band which you apply glue on, wait 30 secs and plop them close to their lash line. Applying them may be a bit tricky but it just takes practise. I like using real hair strip lashes instead of the synthetic ones as they feel more comfortably and look more natural. There are many brands which include Ardell, Red Cherry, Davinci and even MINK lashes which are my favourite ( so soft and gorgeous) Its all up to preference. TIP: You can always cut the band in half and apply them separately if you are having a hard time
2) Individual Clusters- Another popular temporary option is individual clusters. Whats great about individual is that they are more versatile. They can be placed only on the outer corners for a more “winged eye” look which out having a full strip on. You can also strategically place them on your lash line with Small, Medium, Large clusters to have a more custom look. I recommend cluster lashes for those are want a little enhancement, these are also perfect for those who are just starting to wear lashes. TIP: Apply 4-6 clusters at the outer corners of your eye and watch the magic happen
3)Lash Extensions- I’m sure you have a girlfriend who has gotten these done. Depending on the style they can look super natural or very full. Lash Extensions are everywhere at the moment with different styles/ curls/ 3d, 4d/ classic set etc. The lash extensions lasts 4-6 weeks depending on how well you take care of them. Once applied no need for mascara in the morning. TIP: Once you have them, they become quite addictive so beware ;). If getting extensions done, do your research sometimes its worth it paying the extra dollar.
What are your favourite “false lash” options?
I have clients all the time requesting a “airbrush look” especially for brides. Airbrush makeup makes your face look flawless, impeccable and absolutely perfect ( if done right). Airbrush services are a additional fee however those who are on a budget, we offer a second option which I prefer so much more ( no extra machine, no holding your breath, no horror stories if the machine breaks mid way). We love using the Beauty Blender for air brush makeup. There are no edges so you will not get any streaks or brush marks on the face. I love the versatility of the beauty blender because you can apply and also erase (yay! for double duty). The instructions say you should dampen the sponge and apply the makeup on your face. I love it because you get so much more control of the product you are providing. Also not only can you apply wet foundation, you can apply powders as well!. The Beauty Blender is one of my must have products in my kit <3 What do you use to create the airbrushed makeup look without the airbrush?
We were so honoured when Amanda from Amanda Coldicutt Photography asked us to do her makeup and hair for her photoshoot with her hubby. She was such a sweetheart and after then we have collaborated together for a Bridal Shoot seen here. Amanda had another amazing photographer Justine Russo photograph her afternoon. Wow are these shots amazing. I’m loving how her makeup translated (smokey eyes with lashes!) Thank you Amanda for having us be a part of your shoot <3
One of the biggest trends right now are full, bold brows. There are many kind of brow products out there which include pencils, pomades, powders and even cosmetic tattooing. Depending on your preference you may use one or many products to perfect your brows to your desired ” look”. I personally have used shadows and pomades but recently have switched to Benefit Gimme Brow ( listed below). I used to spend 20 mins on them but after finding this product, its 3 mins and ta-da done!. How long do you spend on your brows?
1)Benefit Gimme Brow – As someone who over plucked their eyebrows in high school my brows are not as full as I want. I use Gimme Brow to create brows and an arch where there is none. Gimme Brow is a “brush on fiber gel” which adheres to your skin and brows giving the illusion of “hairs” where needed. I love that is it waterproof and comes in 2 shades
2)Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Po has been trending all through Youtube and Instagram. The pomade comes in many different kind of shades ranging from the lightest blond to the darkest ebony. A little goes along way, apply it with a angled brush and watch the magic happen. PS:its also waterproof and a little pot will last you months. Make sure you close the lid tight as it may dry out. Below is a sample of their shades, she has released more ( yippy)
3) Senna Cosmetics Brow Book- As a professional makeup artist I carry this palette which covers all shades for different skin tones, hair colours etc. A little palette which is travel friendly and no need for extra products. The brow palette is super pigmented not does cause “fall out”. These colours are made perfect for perfecting the brow. Bonus: Comes with a brow wax and a brow highlighter 😉
