Spring Must Haves

hearts

Its that time of Year again, Out with the Old and in with the New AKA Almost and I say Almost time for Spring!!.  My makeup currently has alot of vampy colours from the Winter, matte liquid lipsticks and hand cream to get rid of the Winter dryness.  Spring is  my favourite time of year flowers start to bloom, we change our wardrobe and of course we change up our makeup bags. This year my goal is to also be more compact aka having multi purpose products so my purse isn’t soo heavy.

Here are my Top 3 Items for Spring that I will be definitely bringing into my bag!

ysl

YSL Babydoll Kiss and Blush- This is my favourite item as its very versatile and a little bit goes along way.  YSL is known for their luxury products with amazing smells and gorgeous packaging.  Although on the pricier side, the Baby doll Kiss and Blush is a must have.   Use it on your cheeks and your lips for that airbrushed light weight feel with a pop of colour!

charlotte2

Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow- Okay so I have actually had this for a while but I always go to it.  No matter if I need more colour to my face and a bit of bronzer in the Winter ( We have not had sun for soo long)  or if I need a more highlight, the Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow is a Staple in my bag.  You can also use the bronze and the highlight colours as eye shadows as well to give you  a very natural looking eye for the Spring/Summer months.   This also comes in a deeper palette

laura2

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer- Comes in a few formulas like Oil Free, Regular with SPF20  and Illuminating.  Laura Mercier is a brand that focuses on amazing, flawless skin.  Her products are all great and delivery on their claims.  The tinted moisturizer is one of the best on the market being very light weight, having enough coverage and not clogging your pores.  I love how she has a few formulations so you have variety to choose from.  Availabe at Sephora

My Top 5 Beauty Products of 2015

wakeup

Its that time of Year again for those yearly Beauty Reviews, I gotta admit I tried so many products this year that my place is a hoarders dream! haha.  If anyone is looking for some beauty products  let me know and I’ll be happy to let you browse and of course take some home! =) My house literally has stuff in every room that Ive been keeping around.

  1. First lets start with Skin Care!,  As you might of read in my previous post a few months ago, I had stopped by Avante Laser in Burnaby in the Summer for a Hydrafacial.  These are like the ” carpet cleaning” for the skin as Sandi says.  I loved it when she did mine and now speaking of which I am overdue for one soon.  If you have a special event wether it be your wedding or a Holiday Party I strongly suggest getting a Hydrafacial done a week before to make sure you are looking on point!

2. My 2nd favourite product of 2015 has to be Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks.  Yes there are so many brands that have “long lasting” lip sticks but Kat Von Ds in my opinion is one of the best.  They are drying, non sticking and lasts all day.  I love my long wearing lipsticks as they are usually very pigmented, lasts all day and require mininum touch ups.  Kat Von D long wear lipsticks also come in many different colours from nude to extremely bold =).  For they price they are a must for all Season Wear

3) Oribe ( Or-Bay, O-Ree-Bay, Orb) Whatever you call it this is the Lexus of the Hair World. A Luxury brand ( hefty price tag but worth it) that delivers amazing results with their products.  I am one of the biggest fans of the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, it gives my hair the Ooomph in a can. Spray at the roots and it gives you the volume and texture you are looking for. There are a few ” volume root” sprays in the market but this one knocks it out of the park by far. A little bit goes a long way too!  I’m addicted to this stuff and this is a must for Boudoir/ Messy Bedroom hair as well;)

4) This year was the Year of Mink Lashes for me, I have always been a false lashes kind of gal but never tried Mink Lashes. There are so many different brand of Mink Lashes however the one I started using on Brides and for personal use  was Merlot Lash Bar.  They are ultra light, super fluffy and so easy to apply.  I love how they have 3 Collections ( just like wine), White, Reds and the Bubbly Collection.  My all time favourite pair has got to be Sweet Red and Pinot Noir although I would love to try the Rose from the Bubbly Collection next time!

5) Lastly my favourite product of 2015 has got to be Deodorant Cream from Living Simple.  At first when I got this I knew it was going to be something I had to get used to. It  is a cream that you  rub under your arms instead of a anti persperiant/ deodorant stick.  A little bit goes along way and it smells oh so  good!.  Forget about the artificial ” Artic Air ” or “Rose Blossom” scents you regular deodorant has, Living Simple has Natural Scents from Essential Oils that make it smell wonderful. I have been a fan of the ” Peppermint Tea Tree Oil” which is one of their best sellers.

Hope that you enjoyed this! Which products were you top 5 this year? did they make this list as well?

Tested and Reviewed Tarte Liquid Black Eye Liner

tarte

There are so many different types of ” black eye liners” from pencil, to kohl, gel pot, liquid, felt   and even shadow.  I recently went into Sephora and tried a felt black eye liner and absolutely fell in love with it.  I used to use the Stila All Day Water Proof Liner however it was not water proof at all.  Within about 4 hours I looked like a I had a bad smokey eye :(.  I also had tried the Kat Von D felt liner in ” trooper” however I felt that it too “wet” for me and did not try fast enough.  Lone and behold last week I picked up the ” Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Precision long wear liquid eye liner” (thumbs up for being Cruelty Free and paraben free too).  It claims it is long wearing and you can achieve a crisp line with the tip.  I absolutely love this product, it drys super fast, the felt is at a point and not at a angle and definitely is long wearing.  It lasted me all evening and this will be my go to for a while.  A little  Pro tip for you; Apply a primer as a base to increase the longevity of it =) Hope you enjoy! I have also provide a few  step by step tutorial I found online that you can use the liner for ~

nano

ProTip Mondays: Feeling shiny or looking too much like a disco ball? Apply a little bit of Nanoblur with a sponge on your t zone area to reduce shine.  I love this as a alternative to powder or blotting papers.  Nanoblur can also be used underneath makeup to minimize pores and fine lines, Double Win =)  You can purchase this at Shoppers Drug Mart.  A little bit goes a long way and I love how you can use it before AND  after makeup! Woo hoo!  This is a must have for Brides during the Hot Summer Season.  I recommend everyone carry this in their makeup/touch up bag for those days where you want some extra love 😉

How to hide the Thanksgiving/Holiday pounds with Contouring

contour

We all get those days, weeks and for me months!.  Once Fall/Winter  comes around we are bundled up in our jackets trying to hide our Turkey Dinners  and our delicous Holiday Treats.  One of the must haves in my makeup bag is contour products to make it look like I did not actually put on the “Holiday 10lbs” haha.  Here are my top 3  contour products I’m liking for this Holiday Season.

kevynKevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder. I have used this product for years and its once of the best.  It blends ever so smoothly and goes on like a dream.  It love how the colour is not to warm so the ” contour” shadow you are making doesn’t look “orange ” or ” blotchy”.  Use with a sculpting brush and a little goes a long way :)

rcma

RCMA.  A professional brand that is Vegan ( woohoo) with amazing products for the professional world.  I have a few of the RCMA cream foundations and I am so happy I tried RCMA.  With their products they are reasonably price and do its job plus more.  When I found out about this Shading wheel I was amazed as its a All in One  product for  just about every skin tone.  No need to buy different products when you can mix your own personal contour! =)

mufe

Makeup Forever. One of the all time favourite Brands.  I love all their products because they are pigmented, durable and best of all easy to access ( Thank you Sephora!)  The Makeup Forever Sculpting Powder is 2 in 1 Highlight and Contour.  It comes in 4 shades ( I love shade # 2).  Use with the Makeup Forever Duo Blush/Contour Brush and Voila! Contour for Days =).

MAKEUP FOREVER ARTIST ROUGE IN #41

10 Min Smokey Eyes =)

As a makeup artist I always get asked by clients and friends  “How do I do a smokey eye without looking like a panda?”.  The key to a smokey eye is blending and also have the ” darkest” colour near your lash line and blending upwards creating the ” smoke effect”. One of the fastest ways of creative a “smokey eye” is only using 3 products!.  Black eyeliner, a shadows of your choosing ( this will determine your smoke) and mascara.

1) Line your eyes with the black eye liner ( top and bottom), I like to use a waterproof one like Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes to really have it stay there all day

2)Using your brush or your fingers “smudge it” upwards ( this does NOT have to be perfect), just make sure you see no harsh lines and the darkest part is still at the lash line.

3)Apply your smoke colour with a ” blending ” brush, be sure have the gradient from lash line to crease. – Don’t forget about the bottom ( focusing more on inner 2/3 of eye)

4) Apply Mascara and ta da! You are done.

Here are a few other ways of applying a smokey eye.~ Which one is your fave?

My TOP 5 Favourite Makeup Products!

Port10-

Clients all the time ask me ” What is your favourite makeup brand” and to be honest I don’t have a “Favourite” per say.  Every product brand  has someone unique and different that I like about them.  I don’t necessary like EVERYTHING in a line but I have my “Top Must Have Products” that work well with my line of work.  Being a professional full time artist I rely most  on quality and durability.  There are times when I will pay the extra $20 for a foundation because it works ! ( You know what they say, you get what your pay for).  Expensive products doesn’t mean they are the ” best” either, sometimes you are paying for marketing, a celebrity endorsing it or “luxury” packaging so don’t be fooled! ;).  Here are my TOP 5 Makeup  Products  that I absolutely LOVE

1-Loreal- Yup Loreal you read right!, Its Drugstore brand but its okay =)  I go through mascara every few weeks from brides, grads to personal clients. Loreal mascaras have always been a staple in my kit.  They are not ” too wet” nor ” too dry”.  For me they are the perfect consistency  for what I need them to do.  Loreal Voluminous has one of the Blackest Blacks out there and it really enhances the lashes

loreal

2- Face Atelier Ultra Foundation Pro- Canadian based company (thumbs up) that delivers a exellent foundation which is building, light weight and lasts.  I have used so many foundation out there from drug store, high end to luxury and I have finally found my go to foundation!. Its so soft and weightless and does so much with just a little bit of product.  the 0++ is a must in my kit too as it is a adjuster for those who want a different ” tone”

face

3-YSL Rouge Volupte- These are my favourite lipsticks hands down. They are super pigmented, soft and very moisurizing. A swipe definitely goes a long way.  They come in a full range of shades and I am sure you can find one that will fit you. From soft beiges to reds and deep plums, these lipsticks are a must have in my kit.

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte

4-Viseart Eyeshadows- I got introduced to these a few months back when I was taking a Colour Theory Course in Seattle. After touching them and playing with these eyeshadows my life was changed imediately. Not only do these shadows blends like a dream, they also have no fall out at all.  You can create the ultimate smokey eye without having to go back and fix up under the eye.  I love how they come in all sorts of colours ( Perfect for a compact kit)

viseart

5-Makep Forever HD Creme Blush-  Makeup Forever created the HD Foundation with HD Powder a few years back and they were a game changer.  As mediums have now changed to HD we ( makeup artists and consumers) require HD compliant products.  These creme blushes are amazing!, they create the most gorgeous colours when applied on the face ( kind of like that air brush finish look). They are easy to blend and the colour range works on all skin tones.

3 Must Have Summer Essentials

Summer is here (well almost) and you know what that means, hot days, drinks on the patio, runny mascara, and shiny faces =P.  As we leave Winter we should change up our makeup bag with more  Spring and Summer beauty products.  That means we can put away the vampy lipstick and the powder compacts. Here are my top 3 Must Have products for Summer

1) Evian Water- I love this as its feels so refreshing on your face ( definitely cools you off a bit) and revives any dull makeup on your face =).  What I also love about this is that it comes in a travel size as well. ( Perfect for beach days).  Spritz on your face and watch the magic (TA DA!!) happen. From Boring/Dull to Natural Luminous Skin

evian

2)Blotting Papers- If you are like me, I “glow” like crazy during these months. Sometimes I glow too much and I swear people could see their reflection on my forehead.  Blotting papers are a great alternative to powders as they remove exess oil without adding on any sort of makeup on your face ( more makeup= more chance of it looking cakey).  Blotting papers can be found just about anywhere

paper

3)Lipstains- These are a must! The give your lip a “just bitten” look without looking too done up.  Apply it in the morning and you will barely have to touch up through out the day.  It gives you lips a fresh, natural look that is perfect for those summer nights.  TIP:Some stains can be used on your lips and your cheeks, Great way to keep your makeup bag compact!
